Discussion Board Instructions
CHRI 1314: Introduction to the Christian Faith
There will be a discussion board assignment due each week. Each student should respond with at
least three comments related to the discussion in the corresponding module for that week. One
comment should be an initial thread in response to the discussion question (250-300 words), and
this post must be made by Thursday of the assigned week in order to be considered for full
credit. The other two posts (150-200 words) should be responses to two fellow students’ posts.
Each discussion is worth 40 points, for a total of 320 points earned during the course. To earn
these points students must fulfill the requirements listed in the following rubric.
The following outlines the schedule for posting:
• Each module begins on Monday
• Original threads are due by 11:59 p.m. (CT) on Thursday of the corresponding module
• At least two responses to classmates are due by 11:59 p.m. (CT) on Sunday of the
corresponding module
Late posts will be penalized 2 points for each day. No posts will be considered for a grade past
11:59 p.m. (CT) of the Tuesday following the corresponding module.
In your discussion board posts, it is expected that you use sources. The posts should not be
merely your own opinion, but rather your thoughts as developed through the material you have
studied that week. Here are some guidelines about using sources:
1) In order to get full points, you must make reference to at least two separate sources in
each post.
2) Your initial post should make reference to at least one of the textbooks.
3) Listing sources at the end of a post does not count as using them. You must include a
specific page that you are referring to in your post.
4) You are expected to use the Bible when relevant to the question, but it is not
considered a source.
5) A resource is a textbook, one of the readings or videos identified in Blackboard or
another source that you find through your own research.
6) All sources should be cited and referenced in Turabian formatting. For further
instruction and examples of Turabian formatting and citations, please refer to the
Formatting Guide document.
