Don’t laugh! At first this assignment might seem a little different, but its effectiveness has been proven time and time again. The intent of this assignment is to help ensure that you are able to apply what you have learned about Piaget’s stages of development.
Through your textbook, you have been introduced to each of Piaget’s stages. You also had the opportunity to watch a lecture and participate in a discussion about these stages. Now, we will see if we can apply them, albeit in a very unique way.
Your assignment is to review the rules of each of the card games listed below. Links to rules have also been provided. For each game, you should choose the appropriate Piagetian stage and explain why you believe it is most appropriate.
Keep in mind that you may need to focus on the skills needed to play the game, not just the rules. By identifying these skills, you will be able to determine the equivalent developmental stage. It might also be helpful to think about what ages individuals are when they most enjoy or engage in each of the games. Make sure you select a game to match each of Piagetian stages.
You should submit your assignment as a Microsoft Word document. You may choose to format your responses as paragraphs or use a table/chart to provide your answers. If using a table, it should include 3 columns as illustrated below:

To get this week started, take a few minutes and watch the following video about the development of the adolescent brain.
Sarah-Jayne Blakemore: The Mysterious Workings of the Adolescent Brain

Having reviewed the video and as you get ready for this week, ask yourself how these new insights into brain development should affect the way we deal with adolescents and young adults. Think about traditional schooling, activities, and other cultural institutions. Have these institutions adjusted the way they operate in response to these discoveries? What implications should we be considering?
