During the semester, we will be watching episodes from PBS’s acclaimed series, “ART 21.” Afterwards you will be expected to write a 300–500 word essay offering a response to ONE of the artists viewed

Your essay should be formatted into 3 paragraphs as outlined below, and must CLEARLY address the prompts:
1. Start with a generally introduction to the episode, talk about the theme of the episode and offer some insight into how that theme could be represented through modern art or culture.
2. Then go on to discuss the individual artist you’ve chosen. Your response should be primarily subjective and based on what you saw in the video. No additional research is necessary. Be sure to address the following:
Which artist from the episode did you choose and why?
What were your impressions of the artist’s personality?
What media does the artist work in?
What is the content of their work? Are there recurring themes or images? Be sure to mention SPECIFIC works discussed in the episode.
How might this artist’s work relate to the theme of this episode (Identity, Ecology, Paradox, etc.), and this unit (Originality, Utopia, Reason, etc)?
3. Conclude by summarizing your main thoughts on the episode and the artist you selected with a general statement about the episode, and how it helped you to better understand contemporary art. Finally, prompt your classmates with a question or thought for discussion.
