Identify at least one advanced practice nurse (APN) in the role option or area you wish to pursue. Interview this APN about her/his experiences; education and first position as a master’s prepared nurse. The following discussions should be included in the presentation:
1. What and where was she/he educated at the master’s level?
• What was the nurse’s motivation for seeking a graduate education?
• In what specialty was the education?
• How long was the program?
• Was there practical experience offered/required during the program?
2. Where does this nurse work now?
• Is this role for which she/he was educated?
• Is this role one that is well-established in the organization, or is it a new role?
• What barriers did this nurse have to overcome when beginning the role?
3. Which aspects of this nurse’s role do you find appealing? Which aspects were not appealing?
4. What role do aspire to following graduation?
5. How can you use this information to help you with the role you hope to have after graduating from this master’s program?
