Part One: Passage Comparisons and Analysis.
In this section of the exam, there are two pairings of passages from the semester’s readings. You must write about both pairings. For each pairing, write an analysis that compares the passages provided for that pairing.
Consider the following questions for each write up: What literary themes or representations do the two passages share? Is their point of view the same? How are they similar, and how are they different? ** Focus on the textual material actually provided in the pairing – don’t make the mistake of talking about the quoted works generally without referencing the provided textual details. You can also discuss how the passages are relevant to how each author’s work has been discussed in class this semester, and can also discuss the passages in relation to general themes from the course or to specific points raised in class. ** You can earn up to 6 points for each of the 2 write‐ups, or up to 12 points total for both writeups.
