In a regular semester on campus all students complete a Land Evaluation Project.
This project requires students to complete all the laboratory tests we did over the course of the semester on a piece of land of their choosing, and to prepare a land evaluation report for the site. In the remote format I did not think this project was appropriate and will instead have everyone complete this final assignment. For this assignment you are provided with detailed information about the soil in at a given site, and then you will prepare a land evaluation report identifying and describing the important information contained within the report.
Interpret and explain ALL of the provided soil test results and descriptions. You will be graded on your understanding of each topic. For each, include a detailed description of WHAT these soil test results mean, HOW they influence management practices, and WHY they make sense in the broader profile of this soil and land management. For full credit you must include a paragraph or more explanation of each of the following: soil texture, soil organic matter, soil structure, soil color, erosion potential/prevention/slope, water infiltration, bulk density and soil physical health, soil cation exchange capacity, soil pH, soil nutrient levels, and soil electrical conductivity. Then include a conclusion with management recommendations. Suggest management actions that can be undertaken for specific soil health concerns and for general soil improvement. Include soil conservation recommendations, fertilizer recommendations, and any other soil use or amendment recommendations
