You are required to consider the assessment from the perspective of designing your own business. It does not matter what business you consider, but it is essential that you to understand what ‘critical factors’ need to be considered in any business to ensure ongoing success. You will be providing an overview of your proposed business in the introduction section of your assignment. It is recommended that your business starts off small, with the aim of gaining growth and ensuring long term success and sustainability.
The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (2017) state;
“Organisation design is the process and the outcome of shaping an organisational structure, to align it with the purpose of the business and the context in which the organisation exists. To be effective, it requires familiarity with the external environment and the business needs, as well as an understanding of people behaviours and people processes.”
Scenario:
You are tasked with designing a sustainable organisation for the future based on theory and documented practice. A ‘Sustainable Business’. The purpose of providing a brief outline of your business proposal is to allow you to apply your knowledge in terms of organisational design, and specifically the ‘5 Key Pillars’ that are the main focus of the assignment.
You should focus on the term ‘Sustainable’ as referring to the long term success of the business. You should be considering how the structure of the business can be designed in such a way that the business has a long-term future. There is no requirement for ‘Green issues’ to be the main focus of your business. If you do this you may go off topic!
This will require extensive research into a number of key academic themes, whilst at the same time examining genuine organisations and their success or failure.
