Overview
This module introduces various models created to facilitate approaching the implementation of an evidence-based practice change systematically. There is recognition of the inherent challenges to implementing evidence-based practice in the clinical practice environment. Several models are described in detail and can be utilized to assist clinicians in changing practices based upon evidence in their organizations. Similarities and differences ofthe models are described. The module describes how research findings are assessed and utilized in the implementation of evidence-based decision making.
The essential elements for successful organizational change are introduced. The module discusses the critical principles and steps for implementing change in individuals, teams and organizations. Several non-healthcare change models are described in detail. Establishing a well-formulated strategic plan is emphasized in the context of successfully implementing evidence-based practice change. Strategies for overcoming barriers to implementing and sustaining the change are provided. The module concludes with emphasis upon the character and perseverance required to see the practice change through to success.
