Write a 5-page double-spaced paper on a topic of your choosing related to Atul Gawande’s The Checklist Manifesto.
Papers should synthesize what you have learned through reading The Checklist Manifesto. I am not looking for summaries of the book, but rather inviting you to think creatively about how this book influences your thoughts about healthcare and nursing practice. You might also decide to incorporate material from other class readings and our class discussions.
Examples of topics include how checklists can guard against errors in healthcare practice, what nursing can learn from other industries (e.g., the airline industry), the role of communication in successfully implementing complex processes, etc. It is important that you chose a topic of interest to you!
Papers should include an introductory paragraph (introducing the concepts or ideas you’ve chosen to write about), a body (in which you layout and demonstrate how the concepts or ideas you’ve chosen to write about showed up in the book; you may also integrate other readings from class here), a conclusion, and a reference page.
