a. Vision and Rationale. A short statement on the vision of the Institute and its potential contribution to global impact in science and technology and to achieving the vision and goals of the sector
b. Research focus. High level description of the key research questions and themes the Institute will focus on. How will the Institute’s output address global and global challenges as reflected in the sector’s and big company integrated strategy? What are the spectrum and mix of the research to be conducted by the Institute, e.g. goals-driven vs. discovery, applied vs. fundamental? What are the transformative aspects of the proposed research (for the sector, global context) and accomplishments that will be made possible?
b. Strategy for Success. Summary of the Institute’s Research Plan and a brief description of each element of the Plan. What is the current state of the art, and in what new directions will the Institute’s work lead? What results are expected and planned over the next 5 to 10 years.
d. Collaborations. Description of the nature of the Institute’s relationships within the sector including those with industry. When relevant, discuss potential collaborations with other partners, including international partners.
e. Path for translation of output to the ecosystem, including commercialization. Overview of the Institute’s potential to translate the outcome of its research activities including the creation of commercial opportunities. What level of translation and commercialization does the Institute aspire to achieve?
