To be able to undertake a control traverse using a total station, perform traverse computations, and procedures in setting out buildings.
Undertake measurement and calculations that involve
1. Angular measurement using total station
2. Distance measurement using total station
3. Drawings (Manual/CAD) representing rectangular or polar control points of a relevant site layout information
4. Calculations associated with the preceding including distance, whole circle bearing angles, internal angles, Easting (E) and Northing (N) coordinates.
WHAT IS EXPECTED OF YOU
Produce an individual report.
Set out the layout on page 3 in the field and follow the traversing procedure to carry out the exercise using a Total Station. Prepare your field book for recording station, instrument height, target points, target height, vertical angle, horizontal angle and slope distance.
Check for mis-closure error and update the adjusted internal or external angles. Based on the field data, calculate the whole circle bearing angles and the coordinates of the traverse points for the control network. Show all working out
Use CAD or Hand drawing to produce the site layout based on the corrected angles and measured distances between stations.
With reference to appropriate books and journals, identify and explain four sources of errors associated with carrying out this type of task including how it can be prevented or minimised.
Discuss the steps used in setting out building using coordinates and explain challenges that might affect setting out.
