Case Study:The girls have been known to the Ruskin Vale Children’s Services for over 5 years. Nadiya is 16. She has been in and out of care since she was 10. Her mother, Jamilah,diedof breast cancerwhen Nadiyawas nine. Sheliveswith her father, Dawudand her younger sister Maryamaged 14. Dawudand Nadiyahave a very difficult relationship and often argue. Dawudsays that he loves Nadiya,but he cannot handle her anger and aggression.He wants her to be taken intocare.Dawudfeels that Nadiyadoes not respect his authority and that she will lead her younger sister astray. Within six months of his wife’s death, Dawud,began a relationship with Aishah. Both girls made it clear to their father that they do not like Aishah.They refuse to eat the meals that she prepares when she visits and spend most of the time in their rooms.Nadiyahas been ‘bunking off’school, staying out late and coming home drunk.She has gone missing from home for days at a time. Dawudhas lost days offwork looking for her when she goes missing. He has had to arrange for Maryamto stay with his parents when Nadiyagoes missing. Dawudsuspects that Nadiyais having sex with her boyfriend and taking drugs.He is concerned that she may not be using contraception.The family are of Pakistani Muslim heritage. The family regularly attended the Mosquewhen Dawud’s wife Jamilahwas alive.
