An interesting fact about child development is that while it is true that the vast majority of juvenile delinquents had traumatic childhoods, it is not the case that all children who have traumatic childhoods grow up to be juvenile delinquents or criminals. Why might that be the case? Could there be parenting or other community influences that affect how kids turn out? Might there be intrinsic aspects of the child’s temperament or ‘nature’ that cause some children to be more resilient than others?
