Healthcare Family-centered rounds (FCR)
This week you were presented with a few landmark cases of medical errors which brought to light particular challenges with communication involving pediatric patients. You learned about family-centered rounds to engage the family and enhance communication among the team and the parents. Family-centered rounds can be applied to other vulnerable populations that cannot advocate for themselves such as patients deemed incompetent or unable to process information.
Identify a clinical setting that you believe will benefit from family-centered rounds as described in the FCR toolkit.
Prepare an ‘elevator pitch’ to your manager with rationales supporting the implementation of FCR in your clinical setting. Be sure to identify the manager in your posting and write it as if you are writing a script.
