Women in the world of Verdi’s Operas
In this paper, would like explore the idea of women in the world of Verdi’s operas. What pulled me towards this paper topic was the topic itself, Verdi’s idea of a woman and his attitude towards them – or at least the female characters in his operas – rather than just the music.
However, his music and way of composing are without a doubt brilliant, with his great lyricism and his occasional shift from the conventional. To get me started I will seek out articles and peer reviewed texts about Verdi’s life and career in general and works that are based on the specific operas and their female characters, that will help me answer questions like these: How where women treated by the composer in his operas? How where they presented? What were they viewed by other, mainly male, characters?
