First, select and summarize a text that represents an issue important to you. Then, interpret and analyze the text based on its rhetorical effectiveness for its intended audience (and beyond). Remember to cite and discuss examples from the text to illustrate and support your analysis. Your response might consider the author’s ethos, the emotional appeals he or she uses, and the arrangement of logic in the text. You may also wish to address the ways in which your text chooses to represent others, what it includes and excludes, its use of figurative language, and the combined effect of these decisions are on the overall purpose of the text.
