Read it carefully, paying attention to the critical thinking concepts that I went over in Tuesday’s lesson.
Answer the following questions:
1. Who did you choose as your mentor and why were you drawn to this story?
2. Do a tiny bit of research on the author. Give 1-2 interesting facts about them, when they were writing, or what surrounding context is interesting to know to help us understand their story a bit better.
3. What community are they a part of in this story? What community/group are they writing about? Explain who you think makes up this group or community at the time they are writing this text.
4. Are they writing to outsiders or insiders?
5. What assumptions does the audience have about this community? What stereotypes, biases, generalizations, or confusions does the audience have that they writer is trying to fix?
6. Why DO YOU THINK the writer hoped their story would clarify or challenge assumptions about their community? What are they trying to change?
7. ANALYZE THE NARRATIVE ARC:
