“Integrity” has been defined (Carter, 1996) as having three components:
a) a personal code about right and wrong;
b) making actions based on the code; and c) being willing to take a stand for your personal code. For example, honesty may be part of one’s personal code. They rigorous work to be honest in all their interactions. And, finally, they actively promote others being honest as well. Additionally, they may take an action when they recognize another person is not being honest.
In research ethics, regulations that foster compliance are based on the integrity of the researcher. Thus, personal integrity is an essential part of research ethics.
In your essay,
1) define three values/standards that you believe characterize your personal and professional life;
2) for each value/standard on your list, add a brief description about how it part of your personal/professional life; and
3) for ONE of the values/standards on your list, describe how you actively enlist others to have the value/standard.
NOTE: Because “honesty” is used as an example, do not choose honesty as one of your values.
