Essay Question: 2500 words
Some philosophers have suggested that we are at least sometimes under an obligation to vote even where it is costly to do so and there is a negligible change that any one vote will make a difference. What are the various arguments that philosophers have used in an attempt to justify such an obligation, and what are their strengths and weakness? At the end of the day, do you think there is an obligation to vote or not? Why? (Regardless of where you come down as regards these questions, as always be sure to discuss both sides of the debate.)
