The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly of Training
Steps:
1. For this discussion, think back to training and development situations at your various current or previous workplaces. Share a learning situation that went well and why. It could have been any type of training or development experience. For instance, it could have been a thorough and well-done orientation, an effective simulation, successful on-the-job training, Online session, team training or development, manager diversity or sexual harassment training…the list goes on. Why did it go so well? Was it the trainer? The material? The training environment or site? The group being trained?
2. Also, share a learning situation where things did not go well and why. What happened? Was the trainer not equipped to train? Was the material outdated, irrelevant, or poorly presented? Was the environment troublesome and not conducive to learning? Be as specific as possible. Give some solid solutions to remedy the “bad and/or ugly” training that occurred.
3. In your opinion, what are the most effective training and development strategies to employ at work. Be specific.
