In class, we have discussed Kenneth Burke’s idea about listening to a conversation before we add our voice to the conversation. Writing Assignment #1 and #2 focused on sources’ perspectives, but now, since we have “listened” to multiple perspectives, it is now our turn to add to the conversation. For this assignment, we will use writing as a technology to make sense of a small part of our world-specifically, argue which way is best to combat an issue from Writing Assignment #2.
Write an argumentative essay that defends your position. This may include:
defining the community
- describing important aspects of the issue
- focusing on one of the ways to combat the issue and defend
- describing the people involved in the arguments and why they are involved
- arguing the various positions regarding the community
- considering why this issue is important to members of the community.
Reminders
Different people will have different ideas about what is important and why, even when they talk about the same issue and ways to combat said issue. To do this, you need to provide evidence that back up your claims) by conducting primary and secondary research.
Specifications
- At least 1500 words (about five pages), typed, double spaced, works cited page, MLA formatted along with all process materials.
- 1. A rebuttal paragraph is after your last body paragraph but before your conclusion. The rebuttal paragraph acknowledges another point of view / counterclaim.
2. Use statements. If you say, that “chicken is the best,” it reads as your opinion without stating, “I think chicken is the best.”
