Aim: The aim of this assignment is to encourage the student to research a topic relevant to his or her course of studies and to present the findings in the form of a technical paper and presentation.
Objective: To research, write and present a technical paper to an audience of your peers.
Length: Approx 2500 words (excluding diagrams, appendices, references)

1. Critically evaluate the characteristics and limitations of various automation systems used in building design.
2. Design and evaluate new concepts, principles and theories to the operation and maintenance of intelligent buildings.
3. Review the installation, development, design and administration of the structured cabling and communications systems.
Subject: Choose a topic of interest to yourself with investigation of intelligent building
administration, design, operation and maintenance:
The topic should involve an investigative approach rather than a description only.
The paper should include your findings based on case study of intelligent buildings and critically evaluate the functions and effectiveness of the intelligent building systems.
Layout should follow the standard investigative methods described to you by your tutor.
You will need to research the topic and your references must be listed in the paper using the Harvard Method.

Marking scheme:
This coursework will carry 40% of the total module percentage. The module is marked as 60% exam and 40% coursework. Each of these two elements must be passed separately at 40% or above
