1. While men and women consider several traits in a mate to be of similar importance, some characteristics are more important to men and some are more important to women. Two such traits/factors are physical attractiveness and the possession of resources.
Please, first, state whether men or women place more importance on each of these factors. Then, from an evolutionary perspective, please explain why this difference might exist.
2. In applying parental investment theory, we might expect for men to only desire short-term mates and for women to only desire long-term mates. However, there are several reasons why men are interested in long term mating (even marriage) and why females are interested in short-term mating.
From an evolutionary perspective, please provide one reason why short-term mating might be advantageous for women and one reason why long-term mating might be advantageous for men.
