Selected Therapy | Herbal therapy |
Describe the evidence regarding the effectiveness and safety of your selected therapy. Cite your source(s). | Traditionally, herbal therapy is one of the methods used to enhance the treatment of various diseases. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), traditional herbal therapy is effective and safe to be used in conventional medication (Klepser & Klepser, 2018). Its effectiveness and safety were affirmed after carrying out a clinical trial that involved herbal remedies to various health conditions. However, adverse effects could arise from poor selection of plants or improper use. |
Describe the population(s) these findings would be applicable to (i.e., children, older adults) | The results would apply to the entire population. Research has it that 80% of the population use herbal therapy as a primary medication for various health conditions (Briskin, 2010). While it is believed herbal therapy is mostly suitable for adults, many herbs have also been used for centuries in restoring a child’s health. |
Identify at least three (3) cultural considerations when using your selected therapy.
|
Beliefs and attitudes of the patient towards herbal treatment;
Prior treatments; The aspect of life. |
Select the nursing theory which would best fit your selected therapy. Provide a rationale for your selection. | The self-care theory
Herbal therapy fits this particular nursing theory because anyone can perform herbal medication if equipped with necessary information. Since it is a homemade process, people can comfortably take care of their own health. |
Take a position on whether or not you would include your selected therapy in a patient’s plan of care. Provide a rationale for your position. | I recommend the use of herbal therapy since it has been used for many decades with very minimal or no side effects. |
Choose the category your selected therapy would fall under (complementary, integrative, or alternative). Provide a rationale for your choice. | Herbal therapy falls under the complementary category because it can be used alongside conventional medical care with little or no complications. |
Identify who would perform your selected therapy, as well as any certification or license they would need to do so. | Herbal therapy must be performed by a qualified herbal therapist. The herbal therapist must have medical training as a medical doctor and must have a license to offer the services to the patients. |
Discuss any government or professional regulations related to your selected therapy. | The US Food and Drug Administration regulates the use of herbal therapies to ensure that the products meet quality standards. |
