Country: Teaching English in South Korean schools.
1. Select ELT materials (activities, lesson plans, etc.) from two different sources and evaluate them as to their suitability for the international context of South Korean schools including information about:
• the evaluation guidelines you followed
• cultural concerns relevant to your chosen context
• hidden biases in the materials (e.g., gender biases, religious biases, social
class biases – be sure to consider who and what is represented/included as
well as not represented/included)
• how the materials fit with the role and status of English, local language
policies, teaching methodologies and institutional objectives
• the appropriateness of these materials for learners of English as a global
language
2. Modify/adapt the materials to improve their suitability for your context.
3. Write an explanation and a justification for your re-design.

• Choose 2 teaching materials from 2 different sources, i.e a chapter in a book , website, worksheet on line, handouts, not the same source
• Need to evaluate, modify, explain and justify the redesign
• Explicitly discuss the evaluation guidelines used in evaluating the materials
• How did you evaluate them, what is the criteria?
• Explain why something has to be modified
• E.g. lecturer whilst in Japan teaching needed to adopt the textbook to add extra materials to make it more relevant, interesting, directed to students needs, more opportunities to speak or produce the language
• Include original and modified in the appendix exclusive to the word count
Note:
• This task should include a copy of the original materials and as well as the adapted materials in an appendix
• The Task should be written in essay style using appropriate referencing conventions
• Sub-headings should be used
• The task will be assessed on:
Successful completion of all assessment specifications
• Demonstrated understanding of effective ELT materials design
• Understanding of the need to be aware of, and manage cultural issues and
sensitivities that may be transmitted through ELT materials
