The briefs for this module focus on fundamental elements of visual communication. Using a combination of inspiring research and creative application, you will have the opportunity to demonstrate how you can use ideas to create exciting graphic design and illustration work.Generating solutions for design and illustration problems is much more than the creative end result. Your thought processes should be guided by the messages a brief needs to communicate. You should also consider your target audience, in terms of what will attract them to engage with specific products, services and stories. Creating an emotional connection with others through effective design and visual storytelling is what builds brands, trust and ultimately increased sales.
This brief will encourage you to be creative, playful and expressive and help you to build your design and illustration skills and knowledge.Brief 1 challenges you to deconstruct and then reconstruct a portrait of one of your peers, using their main characteristics (as identified by them, using three keywords) to convert your thoughts into an visually experimental poster outcome. You will also select and share three words and a portrait of yourself for your peers to use in their poster designs. In Brief 1 for this module, you will test your ability as a graphic designer or illustrator to visually communicate qualities and characteristics, in a unique and visually exciting poster design. You will need to take into consideration all you have learned about narrative, the meaning of an image and storytelling to complete this brief.
Your portrait response may be abstract, expressive or conceptual and you are encouraged to be imaginative in your response. As part of this brief, you are required to examine your own personality, and choose three words which best describe it. You will then post these to your peers in the forum. I would like you to read the list of personal qualities. You should then circle three to four words that best describe your personality. You will use these, plus words of your own to send to your peer later. The aim of this module is to produce work that evidences your creative thinking and development skills in producing a range of ideas and outcomes. You will also be required to demonstrate your digital skills for the completion of your proposed outcomes.
I would like you to read through all of the information about your first Brief (Summative Assessment 1), and make notes recording the requirements, aims and the Learning Outcomes.
I would like you to provide an overview of your understanding of Brief 1 in terms of its main objectives. You should also include and evaluate each of the Learning Outcomes, providing a short explanation of how you intend to cover each one, through your research, development work and outcomes.
Please type your notes out clearly and ensure that you read the content and requirements several times before you engage in this activity.
