AA Reflection Paper
Students will visit an Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)( you can write your own reflections), open meeting and write a 600 words double-spaced paper on the experience.
Attend the AA meeting as a student observer and write a paper that includes
the following information:
• Describe and summarize your feelings, incoming biases, and reactions to the meeting and the
attendees. Discuss the ways the experience was valuable to you or not. Be specific
(30 points)
• Identify which models and principles a 12-step program promotes that are related to OT. Do
you think a 12-step program such as AA may be useful to a client with substance abuse
problems? If so, in what way? If not, why not?. Cite relevant research according to APA style
(30 points)
• Identify a verbal participant from the meeting whom you find interesting. Write a basic
“encounter” note as if you are that person’s OT. This note is to be based on your observation
only; you are not expected to interview anyone. Structure the note in SOAP format, including
subjective and objective information; your assessment; and a plan. Although you can include the psycho-social emotional aspects’ of the individual’s occupational functioning.
