Assignment Details:
1. Identify a technological innovation that is related to health education or health behavior change. The innovation could be a mobile application, social media platform, health care informatics, or some other health-specific technology. Some examples include MapMyFitness, PatientsLikeMe, Calorie Counter, or SexPositive.
2. Describe the basic design and function of the innovation.
a. Who developed it?
b. What is its purpose/mission?
c. Who is the target audience?
d. How is it used?
e. What kind of information does it offer?
3. Based on the innovation’s purpose, function, and features, what behavioral theory(ies) that we’ve discussed do you think are relevant to this innovation? Identify the theory or theories, specific constructs within the theory, and how you believe they are related to the logic behind the innovation’s form and function. (For example, if there is a risk calculator as a component, you may say that perceived susceptibility from the Health Belief Model is applicable; how do you see that construct at work in the innovation?) Be specific and detailed in describing the relationship between the feature/function and the theoretical construct.
4. Write a thoughtful assessment of the innovation’s advantages and disadvantages. In what ways can it be effective? In what ways do you think it could be improved?
5. Overall, would you recommend this as a resource to others? Why or why not? Provide support for your evaluation.
Your critique should be no more than 3 pages in length, double-spaced, 12 point font, 1-inch margins.
