In Chapters 1-4 we have focused on the development of societies from nomadic peoples to river basin civilizations to territorial states to empires. Choose two geographically different regions from the list below and analyze their development from Chapter 1 through Chapter 4. You want to focus on where they are in terms of development by Chapter 4 and how they got there (this is “analysis”). Are they different? If so, why? Did they develop on the same trajectory despite geographical and climate differences? If so, why? (All of this is also “analysis.) When looking at their development you should focus on at least 2 of the following “institutions”: political, economic, social, intellectual/arts or military.
List of regions:
East Asia
South Asia
Southwest Asia (You can focus on Neo-Assyrians or Persians when you get to their Chapter 4 development—you do not have to do both)
North Africa (Egypt)
Your exam should be in traditional essay format with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Be sure to use an argumentative thesis. You do not need to do any outside research (everything you need is in your textbook), but if you do go outside the textbook, please include a works cited page. You should not quote. This exam is too short to fill it with words that are not your own. You should cite anything you paraphrase (even if from the textbook). You may use MLA or Chicago citation style. Your exam should be at least 500 words in length and conform to traditional rule for grammar and style. Plagiarism will result in a zero on the paper.
