Evaluate how the environment influences physiological processes and exercise performance and appraise strategies used to acclimatise athletes to new environmental conditions.

Assessment task details and instructions;

Your work should have THREE sections (Introduction, Discussion, Conclusion & practical applications) and will be marked using the ASSESSMENT CRITERIA numbered 1-6 below (including assessment of Communication and Referencing too).  Some grade descriptors are included in a table at the end of this assessment brief – you may find them useful in differentiating between grade bands.

INTRODUCTION (20%): Provide a clear and concise introduction to the topic area within the context and aim of the assessment brief that provides background information that sets the scene for discussion of the research question.

1. Use an appropriate range of relevant research to provide a general introduction that presents a clear and concise overview of the topic.

DISCUSSION (60%): Present relevant theory and research to evaluate the efficacy of live high-train low training modalities.  Demonstrate effective use of a range of appropriate scientific literature through evaluation and synthesis of research material, with evidence of critique.  Make sure that you use a range of appropriate scientific literature.  In order to ensure that you make effective use of the research, avoid simply describing research findings paper by paper.  Instead, you should evaluate or analyse different pieces of research demonstrating evidence of critique, and you should synthesise research material, that means integrate information from different studies.  When we present ‘theory’, we aim to integrate relevant facts or findings into a structure to explain a particular event or occurrence.

2. Compare and contrast different research evidence to address the research question.

3. Critically evaluate and synthesise a range of relevant scientific literature with research findings concisely explained.

CONCLUSION & PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS (10%)

4. Draw appropriate conclusions and make recommendations that are justified by your discussion.  Do not include any new material in this section.

COMMUNICATION (5%):

5. Ensure your work is structured logically and appropriately.

REFERENCING (5%):

6. Reference your work accurately Referencing should be according to APA Harvard 6th Ed – https://www.salford.ac.uk/skills-for-learning/home/using-and-referencing-information/referencing;

Some comment on terminology that you may find useful in your writing:

Discuss – explain and give arguments for and against an issue, providing evidence to support your points; Compare and contrast – show similarities and differences between studies; Critically evaluate – indicate strength and/or weakness of the evidence; Evaluate/examine/analyse – assess the worth, validity or effectiveness of the research, providing evidence to support your points; Explain – clearly identify why something happens or why it is the way that it is.
