ASSIGNMENT
WHAT YOU NEED TO PROVIDE
Here are the types of things that you need to describe in your directions. Of course, you can talk about other things, but you absolutely have to make sure you cover the following aspects of production as well as provide reasons for the decisions that you make:
1.)Make sure you tell me what scene you are directing. Make sure you pick a scene that is substantially long. A few scenes are one or two pages, and those are NOT fair game!
2.)TIME AND SETTING:
i.Make sure you tell me WHEN your scene is set. Is it in ancient times? Modern times? The future? How do we know?
ii.Also, let me know WHERE your scene is set? Is it in Japan? The United States? Azeroth? Again, how do we know?
3.)ACTORS AND ACTRESSES: What actresses and actors do you have cast in your scene? What roles are they playing?
4.)COSTUME AND PHYSICAL APPEARANCE- What costumes are your actors wearing? Are they wearing heavy makeup? What about their face and body language? Do your characters look tired? Depressed? Scared?
5.)BACKGROUND AND PROPS- What does your set look like? Make sure you tell me what the set is. Is it a bedroom? A bar? A study? After you tell me what it is, describe the set. What props are on stage? What is the room filled with?
6.)MOVEMENT- Let me know what your characters are doing physically in the scene. Actors don’t usually stand in one place and give their lines, so make sure yours don’t! Tell me what they are doing while on stage. Are they walking around? Picking things up? Gesturing wildly?
