Think through some of these questions from the perspective of someone who has largely been left out of the conversation. Which stories haven’t been told, or haven’t been told well? Which stories have been pushed to the sidelines, that need greater representation?
-You’ll be pitching your own proposal for a new film/TV show focused on university life. The pitch should focus on a group/individual that is historically underrepresented on college campuses and in media representations of university life. You do not have to be a member of a group to develop a project around this group. The genre for the film/show is up to you but should fit with the narrative you’re trying to convey.
-The project should be 3-5 pages (Double-spaced, MLA format), not including images or works cited.-The project should include the following sections in paragraph format. (You do not have to answer every question, but you should address every bullet point below as they directly correlate to the rubric used to score this assignment):
oWhich voices are you centering in your film/TV show?
oWhat is your setting? What is the campus environment like? What year is it? Where is the campus? Is there anything about this particular university that is important to your film/tv show?
oOutline your plot: What is the story of your film/TV pitch? What is your conflict? How is it resolved?
oWho are your characters? Give a brief description of their character traits. Try and think about how you can add depth and humanity to tired stereotypes about members of these identity groups.
oWhy is it important that your film/show gets made? What is special or unique about your project?
oALTERNATIVE OPTION: Scene sample: If the proposal is too abstract for you, you can provide a shorter version of your proposal and illustrate your vision for the project by writing a scene (or a couple of scenes) from your
project. It should address the questions listed above in the proposal section. If you go for this option, your page count should be 5+.-Please include your name and the page number on each page. Margins should be 1” on all sides. The paper should be double-spaced and in Times New Roman 11 pt font.-The paper must be submitted through our class Canvas site to Turnitin.com no later than 11:59pm on the due date. Late submissions will be accepted at a significant penalty (if you are worried about technical issues, you are encouraged to submit your paper early enough to remedy any issues).
