Assignment 1: Due Date is in the Course Syllabus
Write a one to one and a half-page typed essay on the themes of truth and nationalism in the architecture/theory of Claude Perrault, Marc-Antoinne Laugier, and A. W. N. Pugin. Include discussions of specific buildings discussed in class (they do not all have to be by these three figures) that address the questions of truth and/or nationalism. Also discuss the important and influential writings of these three figures. Write your essay in a 12 point font with 1’ margins on all four sides. Turn in a printed copy on the due date provide in Blackboard. You should consider such areas of interest as the roles of Greek architecture, Gothic architecture, rational structure, architectural and interior decoration, process, and biography of the architect/theorist.
