This assignment is a summary of the research you have done on your social problem. You will write a 5-7 page analysis of the information you have gathered through both web research and the literature. This assignment should be double spaced, use 12-point font and include section headings to guide the reader through the analysis. Your instructor will discuss their specific American Psychological Association style guide requirements for this assignment.
The paper should include these sections:
Social Problem Introduction, Definition and History: (3 points) A comprehensive definition of the problem from a credible source and brief overview of the history of the problem is presented. Analyze the social construction of the problem over time using the information in your historical timeline document.
Prevalence and Affected Populations: (4 points) The prevalence of the problem is discussed with supporting statistics, including which populations are disproportionately affected. Examples of populations affected may include gender identity and expression, race, ethnicity, age, religion, socioeconomic status, ability or geographical location. Information shows evidence of the use of a variety of sources.
Causes and Consequences: (4 points) Includes an integrated summary of the literature and sources that describe the assumed causes of the problem, the consequences of the problem, and other relevant information about the problem that is documented in the literature you have found.
Interventions: (3 points) Identify three interventions used to effectively address this social problem. Include one intervention at each level: micro, mezzo and macro.
Conclusion: (3 points) A summary paragraph that draws a conclusion about the significance of the problem today, specifically within a human rights and social justice perspective
Appendix: Timeline of Your Social Problem (5 points) Beginning in week 5, you will create a timeline for the social construction of your social problem across time periods in United States history. You will include this in the paper as an appendix on a new page after the conclusion and before the references. You may copy and paste the chart from the Timeline or merge your paper with the timeline document. Tutorials for merging documents may be found on the web.
Writing and References: (3 points) Well written, clear and organized, APA format and reference list included. The paper references a minimum of four peer-reviewed articles, one of which is from a social work journal.
