1. First, you choose six conversations with characters’ names you think can be applied to the concepts; cooperative role, competitive role, turn-taking, and hedges.
2. Out of the six conversations, three should be mixed conversations.
3. The other three should be the single conversation that is:
1. Man against man conversations.
2. Woman against woman conversations.
3. Man against woman conversations.
NOTICE: Children should not be in the conversation.
The analysis is based on the concepts defined in the research paper “Language and Gender differences and similarities in the series Friends. The ideas to be used for analysis and results are:
1. Cooperative role.
2. Competitive role.
3. Turn-taking.
4. Hedges.
These are the four areas that you should analyze in every conversation.
Part 2. Analysis.
Analyze all the chosen conversations and name them as conversations 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 and explain.
For example, if possible, you make a table, but it is not a must for conversation 1 against the result you got from the conversation. What is important is that your discus follows the structure shown in the previous research by Ingrid for every conversation. All the conversations shall be shown in the Appendix after you finish with the analysis and results.
NB: You do not need to take the whole episode. You only need to show the part of the conversation that you are analyzing.
Part 3. Result of the findings.
Part4. Conclusion
You write and compose all the conversation results.
Compare your results with previous research by Ingrid Magnusson, “Language and gender differences and similarities.”
NOTICE: The research paper “Language and Gender differences and similarities” by Ingrid Magnusson shall be used as an example of the structure to follow and to compare your
result with hers only and nothing else.
