We have discussed numerous micro-level sociological theories and perspectives. The following list includes just some examples: symbolic interactionism, personality, symbolic meanings, socially constructed reality, dramaturgy, rationality, legitimacy, looking-glass self, culture, socialization, gender roles, patriarchy, matriarchy, patrilineal, matrilineal, domestic labor, dual labor market, paid and unpaid social service, socialization institutions.
Please apply relevant theoretical perspectives and concepts to the areas specified in each of the following questions.
1) (about 500 words)
Joseph discusses Max Weber’s concept of rationality as the foundation of Western culture. How would you assess the fundamental elements of the Western culture? Do you or don’t you agree with Weber’s analysis? Present provide rationale and evidence for your arguments.
2) (about 500 words)
The articles by Taylor, Luxton and Lee all deal with gender stratification and/or family relationships. Discuss major ideas presented by these authors, particularly the overlapping elements in the Western and traditional Chinese culture in terms of gender stratification.
3) (about 500 words)
Fryer, Oliver and Glazer all emphasize the importance of socialization and agencies of socialization. Analyze one, or two, or all three articles in terms of sociological perspectives such as the symbolic interactionist theory and the notion of socially constructed reality.
