Find a real world example where a semantic and/or pragmatic phenomenon (or phenomena) plays an important role. Your task is to write a 1500 word report describing the issue involved in the case and situating it in the linguistic context (what linguistic phenomenon or phenomena is involved?). When discussing the linguistic phenomenon/phenomena involved, you may find that you have enough material based on the readings that we did over the course of the semester; if the semantic/pragmatic phenomenon was not one that we looked at in the module then it is likely that you will need to do further reading. In either case, you are of course welcome to contact me for reading recommendations.
