1 – What is the thesis of Gall’s The Wrong Enemy? Are you convinced? Using examples from at least two different chapters support your answer.
For the next two questions focus on the ‘story’ of history.
Using only your notes from class:
2 – Explain the goals of Kennedy’s “New Frontier” and Johnson’s “Great Society.” What social programs emerged from these efforts? Successes? Failures? What distractions stymied their progress? How did Nixon carry on the mantle of social progress? Be specific.
3 – Go over the reasons for the rise of the many protest and social movements of the late 1960’s. Consider the rise of Black Power, Sisterhood, the Chicano movement, and Red Power. What successes were there? Failures? How did the pendulum swing and what movements emerged in the 80’s due to that political shift? Successes/failures? Provide specific examples of people and organizations from both eras.
4 – In ONE page or less tell me: What historical lessons from this quarter can be applied to the times you live in? Are these times truly unique or is the wheel of history simply rotating round and round?
