A reflection on the Christian Life_Fall 2021
– Carefully read the text below:
– Compassion, as it is defined in this book, is an unnatural state in which a person becomes present in the suffering of another. Jesus said, “Be compassionate as your father is compassionate .” This isn’t saying be nice, be thoughtful, or be patient. This is saying, leave heaven and live on earth. Leave comfort, security, and peace to exist in community with someone experiencing suffering, pain, or loss. Why would we do this? Because we want to live as Christlike as we possibly can. We want to experience the sacrifice made for us and to make such a sacrifice for another.
– Write a brief reflection on a time when you were so immersed in someone’s sorrow or suffering that you felt yourself change.
– Did you meet this standard of compassion?
– Would you be comfortable going deeper into a compassionate relationship?
