Dovidio et al. argue that the creation of in-groups and out-groups is a normal, psychological process that is part of the efficiency of thinking. Even so, the creation of in-groups and out-groups can contribute to both inter-group conflict and inequality. Based on the readings from Brewer, Fiske, Devine, and others, including Dovidio et al, what do we know about in groups and out-groups, how we respond to them, and how we reduce likely inter-group conflict?
