Essay needed for research internship application
• Why are you interested in this program?
Stem has always been a field that has interested me in its versatility and exemplary ability to integrate different fields together. Currently I’m studying biotechnology at Syracuse University and from what I’ve learned about my field of study is that it combines the business and science field. I feel that being able to have a different perspective from different points in a field allows for a deeper understanding of the many careers that the stem field produces. Therefore, participating in this program will not only grant me knowledge on the different career options of a PhD but learn from the many mentors of this program and how they used their degree in many other fields.
• What are your goals for this experience? Describe a situation when you experienced a setback. How did that affect you personally and your approach to the problem you were working on? In general, we want to hear how you feel about how obstacles and adversity play a role in reaching your academic and personal objectives.
• What career paths are you considering?
Being on a pre-med track I plan to enter the medical field in surgery. Some fields that have been of interest are ophthalmology and general surgery. Also, working in the business field of medicine such as insurance companies or the developmental side of biotechnology. There are many different path when working with medicine but my main interests are surgery or working in the business side of medicine
