Undertake an analysis of an assessment task in an existing English language curriculum, such as EAP or
General English (excluding high-stakes proficiency tests) focusing on one skill only (listening, speaking, reading
or writing), aimed at a particular competency level (e.g. beginners, intermediate, advanced)
– Identify the strengths and weaknesses of the assessment component/skill in relation to relevant second language
assessment and testing theories
– Provide solutions to address the weak areas you identified (e.g. for improved validity, reliability, washback)
– Deliver a 10 minute presentation in-class, outlining your assessment task/skill, subsequent findings and recommendations
– Use relevant visual aids and be prepared to answer questions
