Movie Review: Students will be responsible for writing a (variant on a) movie review of a wrongful conviction film. The movie review makes up 20% of your grade.
Students will have two options. First, you can use one of the Thur. movies to write your review. Second, you can choose from an acceptable list of movies that is attached below. If you find a movie on wrongful convictions you’d like to review that is not listed, you must first get permission from Prof. Redlich
• The movie review is due between Tuesday February 18 and Tuesday, April 28 via Blackboard. That is, you can turn in the movie review at any time on or after 2/18, but it must be turned in by 4/28.
• The movie review should be 3-5 pages (single-spaced) in length. It should include the following (in the order you choose):
o Basic information about the movie, including the title, main actors, basic setting (time and place), and type of film (fictional, documentary, etc). [Note, this should probably come first]
o If the movie is based on an actual person or events, briefly describe the case(s).
o Review major plotlines and happenings. It is okay to reveal the ending. A recommended guideline is to review five events, and to span the entire movie (i.e., do not only describe events in the first 1⁄2 hour).
o Discuss what you liked and did not like about the movie. Provides reasons why.
o Be sure to integrate what you have learned in the class into your review. This assignment is purposely later in the semester so that you will be knowledgeable about wrongful convictions. I want to see this knowledge in your review. Were there consistencies or inconsistencies with what you learned about eyewitness misidentification, for example, in the movie? Cite from readings to support your statements (note, cite ≠quote).
