Explain your rationale for choosing this type of program evaluation. In other words, why is this type of evaluation the most useful for your program interventions?

Type of Evaluation

Start by introducing each evaluation that will correspond with each intervention that you mentioned in part 2 (needs assessment, process, outcome or efficiency evaluation, or a combination of two or more).  Then explain why this type of evaluation is most useful for your program. (one page).

Evaluation Plan for intervention 1

Introduce intervention 1 and the objective.
Then introduce the evaluation you will be using to determining if you have met the objective. Explain your rationale for choosing this type of program evaluation. In other words, why is this type of evaluation the most useful for your program interventions? (this relates to needs assessment, formative evaluation, process evaluation, outcome evaluation, etc. that you detailed in discussion board 7.)

Evaluation Design for intervention 1 – Identify and provide explanation of the design that would be useful for this intervention (this relates to discussion board 8).

Data collection processes and tools for intervention 1

Identify a method for collecting data, and any measurement tools you will use.

Example:

Evaluation for intervention 1

The intervention is afterschool tutoring for 25 low-income students.  The objective is to improve the grades in the subject matter for at least 50% of the students receiving tutoring.

Evaluation:  An outcome evaluation is used to determine if the program meets the objective of serving 25 students and helping 50% of these students improve their grade in the subject they received tutoring.  An outcome evaluation for this intervention would be more useful than others, because there is a specific outcome expectation that can be measured.  An outcome evaluation helps determine if the program worked. It answers the question “did the program impact the target population’s problems as expected?” (Royse, D., Thyer, B., & Padgett, 2010). The main interest in evaluating this intervention is if 25 students were served and if 50% of those helped, improve their grade in the problem area? An outcome evaluation will allow me to determine the success of this intervention.

Evaluation Design for intervention 1

This intervention is focused on serving 25 students by providing tutoring, and determining if 50% of those students improved their grade in the subject they were tutored.  To determine the first part of this intervention, serving 25 students, a post-test is used to evaluate if the program serviced 25 students. At the end of the program, the post test would be simply looking at attendance records, and program applications, to determine if the data suggestions that 25 students were served. For the second part of this intervention, grade improvement, a pre-test, post-test design will be used (Royse, D., Thyer, B., & Padgett, 2010). The data that will be measured before the intervention, and after the intervention is the grade in the course each child is receiving tutoring.  The posttest should determine if there has been improvement, no improvement, or a decrease in the grade reflected in the pre-test data.  This type of design is most useful when looking at one variable, grades, and determining what change occurred due to the intervention. We are interested in determining if the grade of students change due to the tutoring provided.

Data Collection Plan

The data collection process for the first intervention is related to tutoring attendance and grade improvement for program participants. For this intervention, program records and secondary reports will be used ((Royse, D., Thyer, B., & Padgett, 2010). Program records for this intervention are attendance records for students who participate in tutoring services. The program will keep daily records of students who attend the after-school tutoring program.  Additionally, grade reports, are a form of secondary data, because our program is not creating the grade reports. The grade reports are provided by each students’ teacher. This secondary data will be used to help the program determine if a student’s grade report changed from the beginning of the tutoring services, to the end of the tutoring services.
