Diversity Issues in Counseling.
Welcome to your Diversity Issues in Counseling. Answer the questions based on your program of study, Clinical Mental Health). Each question is 10 points. You can use up to 1 page for each of your answers.
1- When working with refugees, Bemak and Chunk (2017) talked about the five phases of the counseling process in order to utilize “culturally responsive counseling interventions.” Think about an imaginary client/student of your own, describe these five phases with examples of how you would utilize the interventions Bemak and Chunk (2017) offered in the article.
2- In our class meeting with the international guests, one theme that appeared to emerge was that there was stigma around counseling services back in their own countries. This phenomenon is also common in minority groups in the US due to various reasons. For instance, most counseling theories, techniques, and values were originated in individualistic European American culture of 1930s, 1940s, and later years. As a Clinical Mental Health or School Counselor, provide at least 5 different ways through which you are planning to promote counseling services for clients of diverse backgrounds.
3- Reflect back on the article you read for week 3 (the one you picked from the list and made a video of). Describe the article you read in 1 short paragraph first. Now, if you were a multicultural researcher, what would you want to research next based on the results/suggestions/findings of your article? What would be your research question? Who would be your participants? What kind of data would you collect? What kinds of results would you expect? And how do you think your research would help the counseling profession?
