Question 1 10%
With construction there are 3 typical forms of contract that can be used, traditional, design and construct and Cost Plus. For each of the contract forms, provide three benefits and three detractors for their use.

Taking into consideration movement and placement provide a list with a description for each, the types of movement & tolerance on a building (provide 6)
Question3 35%
With respect to defects as defined by QBCC, rate the following as a category 1 or category 2 defect, or not at all. With each provide an explanation as to choice of defect.
- a) A door which is difficult to open
- b) Water into an underground carpark
- c) Paint peeling on an external steel column
- d) A walkway with the concrete and tiles at different heights/elevation
- e) water on slip resistant tiles beside a pool
- f) Stains on 3 year old carpet
- g) Deep cracks in a structural column
Question4 40%
You are looking at replacing failed sealant in a joint between to concrete panels. The panels are each 10m by 10m in size an you are installing them at different times and different temperatures. Provide calculations to determine how much movement the joint will have for the following conditions. For reference, the panels will be subjected to temperatures from 0 degree to 50 degrees Celsius.
- a) How much movement will the joint have if installed at 10 degrees Celsius; and
- b) How much movement will the joint have if installed at 35 degrees Celsius
Please show the calculations for each.
Based on the movements (+/-) provide a recommended product from the Sika range of sealants that will meet the movement capacities (for this, think the movement from 0-50 and a typical joint of 30mm at 20 degrees Celsius.
