Choose either the story sequence of “Sindbad the Sailor” from The Book of 1001 Nights, 2-3 stories form the Brothers Grimm that follow a similar plot line, “Murders in the Rue Morgue” or “The Purloined Letter” by Edgar Allan Poe, or “Punishment” by Rabindranath Tagore.
All Plot Analyses must adhere to the following format:
Introduction: The introduction paragraph must contain background information on the text (where it comes from, time period, etc) and a statement of thesis. The thesis statement must state an important quality of the whole plot, meaning a comment on its overall structure.
Body paragraph 1: Summary: Must include a clear topic sentence about the overall plot. Summarize the important aspects of the plot.
Body paragraph 2: Analysis: Must include a clear topic sentence about the structure of the plot. Analyze how this plot compares with the traditional plot structure of exposition, development, climax, and resolution. Does it include all the aspects? What are they? What is it missing?
If you are writing about story sequences from the Brothers Grimm or 1001 Nights, then in the analysis paragraph, explain how each story tends to follow the same trajectory, and/or how it may deviate from the plot pattern.
Conclusion: Sum up your main points and leave the reader with a meaningful perspective on the purpose of storytelling (is there a lesson or moral to the story?) and/or how the plot is the foundation of the story.
