“Write about experience reading/discussing literature this semester. To do so, pick one or two poems or writers in particular and analyze how these pieces are similar or different to the literature you have read in the past. In other words, use the question “what is literature?” as fuel for a reflective analysis/analytical reflection on a few of the pieces we’ve talked about.
When comparing work or thinking about any particular piece’s relationship to literature in general, remember that there are different objects of analysis you can focus on. For example, you can focus on the way the text itself looks/sounds/feels – the aesthetics of a piece, its formal dimensions – or how the text relates to the world – in other words, its relationship(s) to society, politics, ethics, love, etc.”
