Political Parties
Texas has long been (and for the most part, still is) a one-party state. Dominated by the (“Yellow-Dog”) Democrats for approximately the first 100 years following Reconstruction, the state is now firmly in the control of the GOP (a nickname for the Republican party, stands for “Grand Old Party” … for winning the Civil War).
However, there are other established parties in Texas.
