THIS SECOND ESSAY SHOULD ADDRESS A DIFFERENT TOPIC TO THE FIRST ESSAY. SO PLEASE CHOOSE A DIFFERENT AREA TO WRITE ABOUT AND BE THOROUGH IN YOUR RESEARCH
In this task, you will take on the role of a senior adviser to the foreign minister, defence minister, international trade minister, or Prime Minister (whichever is most appropriate to your chosen topic). Write a 2,000 word policy paper, taking one of the broad policy areas listed below as your starting point. The policy paper should be a broad policy statement setting out the key issues and challenges Australia will likely face over the next 10‐20 years.
The paper should present at least one recommendation for how the government / ministry should respond to an issue or focus its resources.
The paper should outline clear alternatives to the current policy (highlighting one(s) as the preferred option).
You need to include justification for any policy(s) along with potential ramifications (political, military, social, economic, environmental etc), along with the advantages and disadvantages of alternative policies.
The paper should provide the decision‐maker with sufficient information (evidence) to allow her/him to make an informed decision with regard to the proposed alternative policy.
The report should be structured as follows:
• There should be an Executive Summary at the beginning outlining the aim of the report and your key recommendations.
• The body of the report should introduce the importance of the topic, rationale for action (or inaction), background of the situation, the implications of the action (or inaction) and any other information you feel is relevant.
As always, there is a research aspect to the assignment and full referencing is required.
